And the Moral of the Series (Tampa Bay: Games 31-33) is...

I suppose the easiest thing to say is that while good pitching is vitally important, you're not going to win games if you don't score any runs. That was the situation the last time out with the Rays-the pitching was very good but they just couldn't score any runs. But not so much this time. The pitching wasn't as good as it was the last time out (in any of the games) but they slugged themselves to a win in each of them.

The pitching wasn't as sharp as it could have been. Julio Lugo continues to be a puzzle. The bullpen (beyond Okajima and Papelbon) might be a cause for alarm amongst all but the least faint-of-heart. Brandon Moss' surgery puts them in a tight spot if one of their outfielders goes down (Coco's knee looked like it took a beating during his almost-catch in the last game.) And the recurring pain in Ortiz' knee can't be a positive.

Regardless of all that, a sweep of the Rays is a good thing and hopefully, they've built some moment to carry them through Detroit.
